A bicyclist was fatally struck early Wednesday morning in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles. Police received a report of a downed cyclist on Wilshire Boulevard at approximately 3:30 a.m.

Reports originally claimed that the initial driver who struck the cyclist fled the scene and a second vehicle subsequently hit the fallen cyclist. However, there was no first vehicle.  The cyclist was lying on the road when the car hit him.

The driver remained at the site of the accident and cooperated with authorities.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The potential for fatal injuries greatly increases when an accident involves a pedestrian or cyclist. If you or a loved one has been injured as a pedestrian or bicyclist, it is important to know that you have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Your immediate concerns likely revolve around how you will pay for expensive medical treatment in the wake of the accident.

Because California practices comparative liability, pedestrians who are found to be partially at fault can still receive compensation after an accident. This is because drivers have a larger responsibility to pay attention to their surroundings and be able to react accordingly.

However, the insurance company is not necessarily on your side. The insurance adjuster’s job is to negotiate the lowest settlement possible. They will do so by minimizing your injuries and devaluing your claim. This is why having a personal injury attorney on your side is critical. The attorney will hold the insurance company accountable and ensure that the compensation you receive is fair.

Our team at Bergener Mirejovsky understands that an accident can send your life into disarray. Our focus is on helping you obtain the means to get back on your feet. We will not let the insurance company play games with your recovery.
