Early Tuesday morning, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 101 north of Humboldt Hill.
The collision took place shortly before 6:30 a.m. when a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was merging into northbound traffic from the Humboldt Hill onramp. After looking over his shoulder while changing lanes, the driver hit a pedestrian that suddenly appeared in the lane ahead.
The driver made his way toward the right shoulder and contacted the police.
Multiple drivers struck the pedestrian in the moments following, unaware of the body lying in the northbound lanes.
It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
